I knew Gwen Hanes, whose mother in law was one of the original Hanes family after whom the community was named. When we first lived in the “Hainsville” area it was spelt that way. Apparently, according to Gwen, the family worked hard to have the spelling rectified to reflect the family so it looks as though they succeeded in some respect. Gwen lived in Iroquois the last time I saw her. Eleanor Pietersma would know if she is still there.
Pat, thanks for the information! I assumed their was probably an original Hanes family, but hadn’t checked it out. I wonder how it ever got switched to Hains in the first place?
Is it just me or does that sign have Hainsville spelled wrong? Either that or the others do.
Oops.
