Lovely! We were just down south in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Bloodroot was in full bloom. In our little shaded valley back home, however, it’s just peeking up from the soil, still neatly curled. Ours, incidentally, have much narrower petals — it’s such a variable species! And yours seems to have a hint of pink in the petals, while in our valley Bloodroot is very white.
Thanks for sharing this Sunday snapshot — truly beautiful =)
Thanks K&R! This patch of bloodroot came up in the garden, so was planted by some former gardener. I’m not sure if it grows locally; there is no bloodroot in the forest here. I hadn’t seen that hint of pink on bloodroot before, and the flower has extra petals as well. I was back in the Toronto area, about 500 km east of here on the weekend. There was lots of bloodroot in bloom there, the more standard white flowers.
