Flaming Wildfire
On Monday, we were blessed with a beautiful, soothing rain, a steady daylong drizzle. You could almost hear the overheated earth sigh with relief. The fine mist of rain was perfect for the garden, with no driving downpour to beat down stalks; just a gentle wash of much-needed moisture.

An overcast day, even with a bit of rain, can be great for capturing photographs of brightly coloured flowers that can look washed-out in full sun. The vibrant reds and deep purples seem to shine even more brilliantly in the gloom. Here are photographs of some of the flowers that were singing in the rain.

I love that photo of Nile Crane. The arrangement and the vibrancy: beautiful. I’ve always been a little partial to the cultivars with the paler eye, too.
Oh, I covet Beautiful Edgings. What a beauty. I’m so glad you got rain. It is sorely needed. Yesterday, there was rain over the lake, and rain to the South of us, but we got nary a drop.
I always mean to comment on your daylily posts – truly I do – but this one is awesome – I love, love, love the photos with droplets of rain – the first is an absolute stunner! Where did you get it from? if you recall. We just came out of a very hot dry spell – many perennials crisped and died, but daylilies are totally unaffected – I need more. Thanks for the gorgeous shots.

Seab, those washed eyes on Munson cultivars are attractive, aren’t they. I have 2 or 3 others. There were about 10 blooms open on that plant.
Louise, Beautiful Edgings has done well this year. I’m sure it would be perfect in your garden! Big Smile and Border Sentry are somewhat similar. Sorry to hear you didn’t get rain. My garden has really appreciated it.
Barbara, they surely are lovely ladies! Thanks.
Anya, I’m glad you’re enjoying the daylilies. Non-fans must find them a little boring. The raindrops do add a nice touch. I got Flaming Wildfire about this time last year and am really pleased by how well it has bloomed in its first year. I love those bright flowers too. I bought it in person at Whitehouse Perennials, but they also do mail order.
Here’s a post I did about them the year before last:

Sheri — this is a first for me. I went to highlight the link you sent me in the comment section of my blog and the highlighting eliminated your comment.. I am so sorry. I do remember the link had the word wildflower in it. I did want to check out the link so if you can remember would you send it again? One learns something all the time when blogging — this lesson was watch your highlighting. Thanks for the comments even though it disappeared into thin air. — barbara
