I didn’t get in any hiking this weekend. The weather was cold and rainy. Beyond that though, I was away from home, having travelled to the west of Toronto to stay with my 83-year-old aunt who underwent minor surgery last week. Even minor surgery is pretty major when you are 83, and I was glad to be able to help out and visit with her as she got back on her feet.
My aunt is a long-time sports fan, and we passed some of the hours keeping tabs on the latest developments in the Major League Baseball playoffs. My aunt knows all the teams and players and filled me in on background details. We’re rooting for the Detroit Tigers and the Philadelphia Phillies. I don’t normally follow baseball much, but I don’t mind watching sports on T.V. because you don’t have to pay close attention and you can easily work on a project at the same time.
I was working on completing a small afghan that I started way back in the spring. I set it aside during the hot summer weather. This cool, quiet weekend was the perfect opportunity to finish this project. Here’s how it turned out.
Beaaauutiful. 🙂
It should keep you, or whoever you choose to give it to, nice and warm this winter. Who wouldn’t be warm, cuddled under such beauty?
By the way, you mentioned “The Eighty-Dollar Champion” on my blog. I had that Snowman book ordered before it even hit the shelves, and have read it. If you haven’t yet, be sure to do so. It’s a wonderful, gripping story not only of Snowman, but of his owner/rider Harry de Leyer. Both remarkable individuals. I read the book in two sittings.
Hi Louise, I’ve pretty much saturated my family with afghans, so these days I just make them in whatever colours please me at the time and gift them when an appropriate occassion comes along.
Re Snowman, I read Rutherford Montgomery’s 1962 book about him decades ago and still have a copy. I put my name on the local library’s waiting list for the new book. With your recommendation, I’m looking forward to getting hold of it!
The colors are beautiful!
I really like the variegated squares on this one. 🙂 (That’s not saying I need another afghan. But I do like this one.) (Actually… I have three afghans I’m not using right now ’cause they’ve got dog-chewed holes in them I haven’t got around to fixing yet. If you were looking for Christmas ideas, I would love to have them repaired by an expert afghaner, even if it was just to fix the edges so they wouldn’t unravel but leave the hole in place. 😉
Love the colours.
very pretty. the colours are definitely spring! reminds me of pansies… it looks soft and cozy, a perfect project for this time of year.
Thank you, everyone, for your compliments. iMadeitso, I hadn’t thought of pansies, but you’re right. Maybe watercolour pansies. The next one will be brighter.
Beautiful! You could hang it on the wall as artwork. That’s what quilters do.
