Great shot! E.g. and I saw one from a canoe on the Grand River once, and a couple of times elsewhere, but were never able to photograph one. And this one has posed so nicely under a willow for you! When did you take the picture?
This was taken in late October. We had taken lunch down to a park along the St. Lawrence, and while we sat on a park bench, this little fellow came bouncing along. He/she stopped to check us out before disappearing amongst the rocks.
How interesting to see one. They do check you out don’t they. When we just started building the house, many years ago, one came by and had a look. It was funny because the night before we had been reading in The Corner that Held Them, an excellent novel by Sylvia Townsend Warner, that in the Medieval period to see one of them as you were about to start something new was a very bad omen! Fortunately, nothing bad ensued!
