I once met a new birder who was anxious to add a Snow Bunting to his Life List and spent a weekend driving some 200 miles looking for one in Northern Minnesota. He asked for my help and I asked him did he not notice the many flocks of small birds that flew up in front of him while driving the country roads. He was crushed when he learned he saw fifty in the first mile of driving and countless numbers during his quest. They seem to thrive in spite of our stormy weather.
LOL! Thanks for sharing that. Yes, that’s the way I usually see them around here, flying up in flocks from along the roadside. It was unusual to see this one posing cooperatively in a tree.
How did you ever get a Snow Bunting to sit still for a photo?!
Amazing, eh? When I spotted him in a tree by the driveway, I stopped the car and managed a shot from the window before he took off.
