Santa brought a little something for the feline members of the family, a combination bed and scratching surface. It has been a hit with all the cats.
The label says it is treated with catnip, and the immediate interest shown by the cats verifies this. I grew catnip in my garden this year and have a good supply of dried catnip with which I can reinforce the initial infusion if interest is flagging.
Everyone was anxious to have a turn with the new attraction.
It got a “paws up” rating all round. I like that it is constructed from 98% post-consumer recycled materials. There are 3 layers of scratchy ripple board, and as one gets ripped up, you can remove it for a fresh start. It’s even made right here in Ontario.
It appears that Santa knows cats.
My cats have one of those, too! Unfortunately, they never figured out that they could scratch in it and after the initial layabout period, it has been totally ignored. That’s what I get for spoiling them with heated beds and chair backs, I guess.
Louise, I can see where this would have limited appeal when compared to a heated bed! Some of mine seem to have the scratching idea. I hope I can keep them interested with occasional catnip treats. They’re very keen on catnip.
I wonder if Buddy will retain interest in it the longest? Imagine, a shoebox redolent of ‘nip!
I have almost as many felines as you – and when I first got one of these, one of my gang actually moved in – just plopped into it and didn’t move for ages lest anyone else would get it. In a perfect world with a big house and unlimited funds, each puddy would have one for him/herself 🙂 Great photos!!
Your kitties are looking lovely. My kitties will use any cardboard box available even trying to get into cereal boxes if they can. Unfortunately one or the other (the culprit hasn’t been caught) will eventually end up peeing in the box and it will have to be tossed. If I have a box available 2 or 3 will usually squash in together though and they always know what to do with cardboard. The cardboard egg trays which hold 30 eggs are always kept for a few days and alternate between sleeping pads and scratching pads before they are ripped to smithereens.
LB, so far Buddy had been fondest of the new pad. He’s also a big fan of cardboard boxes.
Anya, it’s always nice to find something that is a crowd pleaser, isn’t it? Their pleasure is your pleasure. Hope you and your gang have a comfy 2010.
Momcat, nice to hear from you! My kitties are doing well, and the household has been considerably enlived by the arrival of Buddy. He is full of energy and zest for life. My cats don’t pay as much attention as they used to to boxes, now that they are older and more staid. I’ve had issues with the peeing you mention too. I think it’s competition from multiple felines in the house.
Nice to hear about other cat lover’s families!
